This past weekend and several days last week, I’ve spent time going door-to-door campaigning for Kim King who is running for State Representative in Kentucky for the 55th District which is Anderson, Mercer and part of Spencer Counties. It’s no secret the town I live in is a Democrat community, however most are conservative. I spent time speaking with a lady who said she is voting out any incumbent. That’s good for our district since many of them are Democrats.
What I’m finding though is that very few are willing to get out the vote. What do I mean by that? I’m talking about volunteering. Going door-to-door, making calls, helping with a campaign. Some will tell you they are voting for your candidate but refuse to put a yard sign in their yard for fear of offending their neighbor.
Let’s face it, fear of offending our neighbor is what got our country in the mess it’s in today. For too long, we’ve let other people do the work and sat back in our easy chair watching the evening news. Now, I’m not saying to go to your neighbor’s house and start an argument, but come on. What a great way to start a conversation…by having a yard sign in your front yard. This allows you the opportunity to talk with your neighbor and let them know why you support the candidate you do. You could even convince your neighbor to vote for your candidate, too.
We can’t sit it out, take it easy, and let others do the grunt work. We have too much at stake. If you aren’t comfortable going door-to-door, how about making calls or stuffing envelopes? These are things you can do from your own home. Scripts are provided to make calls and all the materials you need to stuff envelopes are available as well. Even putting yard signs in your yard and window clings are great ways to GOTV.
When my teenage daughter asks why I get up early on a Saturday morning, I tell her it’s because of her future. I want her to know the country the way that I have known it. I’m already seeing the effects of a country spinning out of control and if we don’t put the reigns on spending now, who knows how it will be when she is my age? It’s not just spending. It’s blatant violations of our Constitution. Disrespect of our military. I can’t imagine how the U.S.A. will be in 20 years. I don’t want to imagine it. I want to do something about it now. I want my voice to be heard. I want my actions to speak for themselves. I want to tell people why Kim King is the best Representative of our District for Kentucky. I want people to know that this state and this country is better than what we’ve allowed our politicians to make it. It’s time to make a difference, but we can’t do it in our Lazy Boy.
I challenge those reading this blog to help your candidate Get Out The Vote. Contact your local Republican Party Headquarters to find out what you can do or contact the candidate you want to support and let him/her know you want to volunteer and ask what you can do.
We have 4 weeks until Election Day. What are you going to do to make a difference? Remember, you can make a difference!
